Statement
The Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival, governed
by ZI-Guitarfest A.C., a Mexican registered non-profit
association, is dedicated to creating an international
world class event to bring first rate musicians and
appreciative audiences from across the globe to beautiful
Zihuatanejo, Mexico, to generate tourism and raise cultural
awareness within the community while raising money for
art and cultural endeavors in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo.
About
the Festival
The Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival was
founded in 2004 and is a non-profit, community funded
festival, a percentage of proceeds each year go toward
supporting arts & cultural projects in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo.
The committee is comprised of volunteers and the musicians
themselves provide their services for free. The festival
relies on a wide outpouring of community support:
individuals and businesses donate funds, meals, airfare,
transportation, accommodations and services each year,
making the ZIGF a true community event. The festival
is held the second week of March each year and offers
a week of live music in paradise. The music is world-class
and the venues are intimate: hotels, restaurants,
bars and live music spots around Zihuatanejo Bay,
in central Zihuatanejo and in Ixtapa. Show Venues
have seating capacities of 60 to 200 people and Concert
Venues have capacities of 200 to 800 people.
The
Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival is a guitar
festival for guitarists only. The invited artists
are guitarists (solos, duos, and trios) specializing
in any genre - flamenco, classical, blues, folk, jazz,
rock, singer/songwriters - from all across the globe.
The musicians receive airfare, accommodations and
a week’s vacation in Zihuatanejo, but no pay.
Over the years the festival has garnered many fans
among artists, most of whom want to return every year
and consider it one of their favorite festivals to
attend. The intimate venues, the casual laid back
atmosphere and the camaraderie among the musicians
make the festival a special musical experience. The
Lineup is announced in January of each year.
Ticket
prices are very accessible and range from to $10 –
25 USD for cover charges and are available at the door
of each venue and by pre-sale the week before the event.
Free to the public events are also held.
The
festival is promoted internationally in Zihuatanejo’s
main US markets and in parts of Latin America and Europe
through the channels of our sponsors and affiliates.
