LATEST NEWS ON GUITAR FESTIVAL
UPDATE FEBRUARY 24, 2008
The programs have just come out – the t-shirts are out – Platinum Passes and the Gold (Bar) Passes are currently on sale at Rick’s Bar and it’s less than a week away to the start of the 5th annual Guitar Festival!.
The programs look great this year….but there a couple of mistakes. In the center of the program, in the actual schedule – it says that Josie Kuhn will be making a special appearance. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen. The good news is that Josie has FINALLY been released from the hospital, after 8 ½ months, and is at home, but she won’t be able to make it here for the festival.
There is a change in the Picante Dinner Cruise – it will be leaving the dock at 8:15PM instead of at the posted time in the schedule. It will cost $250 Pesos ($25US) per person plus the cost of your meal. It will be an OPEN bar! You can call 554-2694 to make dinner reservations and you can pick up advance tickets at Rick’s Bar….don’t forget you MUST make reservations in advance for this trip.
We have a great line up this year and already a lot of excitement is building……..get your tickets in advance from Rick’s Bar and save having to wait in line to get into events……at the opening and closing concerts – we will have a special lane for Pass holders, so they can just walk right in…….
Help with transportation is always needed. We start having artists arrive on Tuesday. On Saturday, there are about 20 artists arriving. To help out with this, contact either Jeanne Pezzi – 755-101-0156 or Rick Carpenter - 755-111-5767.
Thanks again for all your support – YOU are the ones who make this happen…….
Guitar Festival Newsletter - February 14, 2008
Unbelievably, it’s almost time for the 5th Annual Guitar Festival. The musicians, their schedules and the venues they will be playing at (as well as the times) are posted on the website. (www.zihuafest.info).
We will be offering a new type of ticket this year. It will be strictly for the Bar Venues and will be good Monday - Friday of the festival week. It will cost $800 Pesos/$80(US) and will allow in and out privileges. Apart from the Platinum Passes (available for $1250 Pesos/$125 (US) and good for the entire festival week, these are the ONLY tickets that allow in and out privileges. With 6 simultaneous venues going on throughout the week, these offer great savings.
We had a float in the Carnaval Parade this past week, where over 10,000 people turned out. Rafael Arias of El Sanka Grill, created a 6 foot Guitar Fest Logo out of paper mache……it was painted and had a lot of sparkle to it. Several of the committee members rode on the float and a fun time was had by all.
On Sunday, the 17th of February, we will be having our 3rd and final fundraiser – a sail/snorkel cruise aboard the 75’ Catamaran, Picante. 10AM – 2PM at the Puerto Mio Pier. Be at the dock by 9:40AM - Live music will be provided by Jimi Mamou and Juanito Zihua…..Food and drinks will be served and it should be lots of fun. Tickets are on sale now at Rick’s Bar - $500 Pesos/$50 (US) per person.
The benefit concert for Josie Kuhn was amazing. Not only were we able to raise $5000 (US) for her - her dental work and physical therapy were donated as well. Hopefully Josie will be in Mexico VERY soon.
The wine and cheese tasting at Caprichos was great. There were some good wines to sample with cheeses and horsdoevres. We raised enough to cover another airline ticket for a musician.
The martini tasting at El Sanka Grill was fun with many different types of martinis to experience. We met our expenses and were able to cover some of our printing costs as well.
We have a great line up of musicians this year and are looking forward to having you at the festival. Thanks again for all your support – it’s YOU who make this entire festival happen!
