Kelli Ali (England)

Kelli Ali is on a musi31-Oct-2008uth 2001 and Psychic Cat 2004- One Little Indian Records) and a fistful of sparkling collaborations with such stars as Bootsy Collins, Marilyn Manson and Linkin’Park, Kelli Ali is a singer/songwriter who manages to stay out of the spotlight, preferring to follow her unique musical vision in to shadows. Her songs speak of love, dreams and betrayal and much more.

Peter Byrne (Ireland)

Peter has been singing since he was a child. From church choirs, to school shows it has been his passion all his life. Peter is a self taught guitarist and in the late 80s his band The Reason played to a huge underground scene in London attracting interest from the famous Abbey Road studio. Returning to Ireland in 95, Peter headed to Galway where he set up the Glass Onion Band. TV, touring, recording, writing has kept Peter very busy and in Nov 2001 he played 9 shows in 8 days in Manhattan, also played Boston in 2004 and is at the moment in talks with a producer in Hollywood about using some off his songs. His influences and varied from James Taylor, to the Beatles, Stones, Young, Dylan, John Martin and many more. He is delighted to have been asked to play at this year’s festival and hopes you all enjoy the music and party on....
Jose Luis Cobo (Mexico)

Zihuatanejo’s own poet laureate and Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival Ambassador. Local legend who has recorded and performed across Europe and Mexico but prefers to entertain his loyal following at his legendary ZIhuatanejo bar, El Canto de la Sirena, named after his popular song. Jose Luis Cobo will be kicking off the festival with an opening performsnce at the Opening Concert, April 3, 2005 at Carlos N’ Charlies in Ixtapa and coming back to send off the Closing Concert at, April 9, 2005 at El Pueblito in ZIhuatanejo.
Daleth & Antares (Mexico)

Daleth & Antares are composers who have recorded music for national Mexican films, they present a versatile music of Mexico, Brazil, Italy, France and the US.
Steve Denyes (USA)

A subtle blend of American roots music, one part Woody Guthrie, one part Steve Earle, and one part Johnny Cash.
Steve has performed everywhere from street-corners and neighborhood coffeehouses to concert halls and theaters. Along the way, he’s released several independent albums and produced two original musical plays.
Steve is a North American Folk Alliance Showcase Artist, a six-time NACA Showcase Artist, a two-time San Diego Music Awards “Best Acoustic” nominee, and a San Diego Reader “Best Country” nominee.

Tom Freund (USA)
Americana, Roots Rock
Critically hailed singer/songwriter who often accompanies himself on standup bass as well as guitar and piano, has completed his third album titled Copper Moon. MSNBC says, “he made an album that is all at once addictive, stylistically diverse and honest to the core,” and LA Weekly: “Copper Moon is set to get him the recognition he deserves.” Also 3 songs from the album have been featured in major network TV‘s “Las Vegas” and “Dawson’s Creek.”
In the early ‘90s, Tom Freund formed a duo with Ben Harper and spent the mid-’90s touring with the indie rock cult faves The Silos. In 1998, he released his debut album North American Long Weekend on Red Ant label. The record received an avalanche of critical accolades, most notably in The New
York Times in which Ann Powers called it an “unexpected gem” and ranked it #3 in her year-end est-of poll. 2001’s Sympatico drew even more raves. No Depression proclaimed that Freund’s lyrics “capture slices of Americana in a way that many attempt, yet very few actually master,” while All Music Guide, called it “truly unique and absolutely brilliant.” Freund also is a favorite of NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and has been championed by Los Angeles’ powerful KCRW-FM, where he has performed live on “Morning Becomes Eclectic.” Graham Parker added,”Along with Lucinda Williams, Freund is the best singer/songwriter operating today.”
Juan Gaspar (Mexico)

Juan Gaspar began to study violin at age 7 but later changed to classical guitar. As a performing concert artist he has traveled extensively all over Mexico and some parts of the U.S. He has recorded as a soloist and with vocal and instrumental groups. His recent compositions for guitar are recorded in the CD Festones, which has deserved wide acclaim and very favorable reviews: “immediately seems fresh and enjoyable…very idiomatic to the guitar… in many cases the writing is suggested by the structure of the instrument.” Vincenzo Pocci. “Very smooth and fluid melody line…contemporary language without falling into the eccentricities or barbarisms affected by so many contemporaries” Sintesis Cultural. Nelson 'Graham' (USA)

He plays acoustic guitar and sings with a rich, baritone voice highlighting original music in a variety of American styles of grassroots/country/folk. Graham combines a mixture of songs from his experiences of country and city living. Subject matter covers humorous, serious, inspirational, realistic and fun themes. Gypsy (Canada)
New Flamenco
Gypsy’s lively energy comes from an astonishing symbiosis of rumba-flamenco rhythms. The band combines the talents of Chilean composer and lead guitarist, Jose Lamartine, Bolivian songwriter and guitarist Enriquez “Rico” Lopez and Ecuadorian bass player Diego Solis. In August 2002 and 2003 the group was acclaimed at the Waterfront Festival (Hallifax, Novia Scotia). In the fall of 2002 Gypsy was also among three finalists for the Grand Public Award of eworldmusic’s Corrida contest, in which over 200 artists participated. Gypsy has performed across Canada and has made several international appearances in the US and South Korea. From November 2000 – January 2001, Gypsy was featured in Gloria Esteban’s well known Bongos Cuban Café (Miami).

Josie Kuhn (USA & Mexico)

Her songs conjure up visions of mesa’s, canyon’s and the blue sage of New Mexico. She writes from the heart, whether she is writing about the joys or pain of love, Mexican cantina’s or the plight of the Native American’s. Josie has recorded 3 cd’s. “Paradise’, “Walks with Lions”, {produced by Steve Forbert} and “La Luna Loca” which features Albert Lee on several tracks.
She has toured Europe, South America and Mexico extensively sharing bills with Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Eric Anderson, Rick Danko{of THE BAND }, Billy Joe Shaver, Steve Young, Steve Forbert and gal pals Lucinda Williams and Rosie Flores.
Josie has written with such luminaries as Steve Earle, Lee Clayton, Rick
Danko, Townes van Zandt, and Todd Snider and has sung on Cd’s of Steve Forbert, Tom Pacheco and others. She is a recording artist for Round Tower music and has produced 4 CDs, the latest one entitled “Zihuatanejo”.

Goh Kurosawa (Japan)
Global Fusion
Some influences on his music could be said to be coming from Egberto Gismonti, Paco De Lucia, Roland Dyens, Astor Piazzola, J.S. Bach, Jeff Beck, Fela Kuti, Tool or Miles Davis, however the underlying foundation of Goh’s music come from soundscapes and reflections that of the Oriental, his homeland.
During his time in school in Japan, Goh conducted, directed, orchestrated and arranged for the school’s guitar and mandolin ensemble. In the United States he started his formal musical training at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and at the California Institute of the Arts under the guidance of Miroslav Tadic who was voted as one of the world’s thirty most radical and individual guitarists in guitar player magazine. Also among his teachers were Vinny Golia, Federico Cordero, Larry Koonse, William Lenihan, and Charlie Haden.
In recent years, the music of the Balkans has had deep impact on Goh. His music blends the Oriental with the Western. He was a featured artist at the opening of The Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Ricardo Peña plays a variety of acoustic guitar based musical styles including Bolero (Cuban-Mexican), Son (Cuba), Trona Yucateca (Yucatan), Blues, American Folk. He grew up in Mexico and his influences are Latin, Caribbean and America’s Jazz, Blues, Folk and Bluegrass. He is a music producer and has been a professional musician for over 15 years.
Mark Selby & Tia Sillers (USA)

Richard Smith and Steve Trovato have given concerts and clinics together around the world. They are both Professors in the renowned Studio/Jazz Guitar department at the Thornton School of Music at USC in Los Angeles. Their students are working with a diverse array of artists from Maynard Fergusen, Ray Charles and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to Mark Anthony, the Back Street Boys, Beck, Madonna and Run DMC. Richard’s latest and ninth solo album ‘SOuLIDIFIED’ spent 17 weeks in the top 10 for contemporary jazz radio, it features Brian Bromberg, Alex Acuna, Jeff Lorber, and Snoop Dogg drummer D-Loq. Steve Trovato is a world class multi-stylist. He has countless credits including twelve instructional guitar method books published by Warner Brothers and three instructional videos published by Hal Leonard. Bebo Whitehead (USA)

Bebo Whitehead has been touring for the last 20 years and has a great fan base. He toured Norway with Norwegian recording artist Tom Brathen. His songs have been recorded by various artists, Delbert McClinton is currently considering one. His latest CD is called “Whisky, Cigarettes, Guitars and Train Songs” and was produced by Wayne Neuendorf. He has played with James Cotton and Bo Diddley in NYC, Tod Snider in Nashville and with The Amazing Rhythm Aces. For the past 15 years he has worked on various recording and live projects in Nashville, TN for artists like Josie Kuhn and Gretchen Casler. New CDs on the way: one solo project, one CD with Hogbear Band (his former band) and a new CD with Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show who he is currently touring with.

In my career I have performed in Mexico City, and all over the Mexican Republic and also in Canada (Montreal Jazz Fest), London, Liverpool, Spain and Cuba!

Award Winning Luthiers from the Casa de la Cultura in Paracho, Michoacan a village north of Zihuatanejo world famous its hand made guitars. And from Pistol River, Oregon, Les Stansell of Stansell Guitars who builds guitars in the Spanish Classic tradition from the highest quality woods. They will be displaying their hand made guitars around Zihuatanejo throughout the week and at all dinner shows and concerts. They will also have information about the fine art of guitar making.
