Back to Guitarfest history and past festivals
My guitar has taken me to some pretty interesting places. I have entertained Rockefellers’ in New York and Kennedy’s in Massachusetts. I have played for Kings in the Persian Gulf and Queens in the West Village. I was among the fortunate few chosen to participate in GuitarFest 2007 . 16 guitarists hand picked from around the world to come to Mexico and share our music with each other and the people of Zihuatanejo.
When I told people where I was playing I got 2 reactions - “Where?” and “You are going to LOVE it there” . Those who had obviously been there and would never expound with anything more than a knowledgeable glance as if I were about to be inducted into a secret brotherhood. I understand that glance now.
I can not explain, nor do I have the need to fully understand why I fell in love with Zihuatanejo. I don’t need to know if was the camaraderie or the Tequila, the late night Hamburguesa or the Swordfish on Bicycles, the Anejo or the Pandejo. Whatever it is if you are among the fortunate who get to Zihuatanejo I can assure you “you are going to LOVE it there”
‘nuff said.
Pat Gaudagno (Guitarfest 2007 musician)
Zihua Guitar fest was a truly wonderful, unforgettable experience, and a very exciting adventure. Joy, laughter, euphoria, music, music everywhere, -- what can make a person happier? Being emerged into the remarkable variety of musical genres was as inspiring as was performing for the extremely warm and welcoming audience.
Arina Berceva (Guitarfest 2007 musician)
Since I mostly play solo acoustic guitar, even though there are some festivals and concert type of performances I often find myself playing in restaurants or small bars where I am not much more than a jukebox in the background. Even though I love playing and never take the gigs I get for granted, being accepted to the 2007 Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival was not just an honor, it was one of the most wonderful weeks in my career. I was treated very well and played in some very beautiful venues. Who could ask for more than having the ocean as your backdrop. The people who put on the event are just fabulous and the other musicians on the same par. People ask me what it's like performing and I say, "It's like sports, it's always better when you are on the winning team". Well, the Zihua Fest is like a week of winning the World Series :).
Chris Dunnett (Guitarfest 2007 musician)
On behalf of Sergei and myself I would like to thank you and everybody else
who helped to organize the Zihuatanejo Guitar Festival 2007. It was an honor
to be a part of this great event and to get to share the stage with so many
talanted and interesting musicians and, most importantly, to get to meet and
to know so many nice people and the beautiful country of Mexico and the town
of Zihuatanejo! It is truly a paradise, not only a tropical one, but also a
musical one, with so many venues having so many live musicians perform
almost every night and music being played, sung and danced to everywhere you
care to look. Everybody we met was so nice to us and so supportive to my
weak attempts to speak whatever little Spanish I could :-) I hope we made
some new friends during these 9 days that went oh, too fast.
Dmitriy Soliterman and Sergei Roudzinski (Guitarfest 2007 musician)
"The Zihua Guitar Festival was truly a fun experience : Days of tropical weather and nights filled with music of guitar players from all over. I'll
be applying again for sure."
